Our 7 tips for eco-friendly bathroom maintenance ✨

We spend around a year and a half of our lives in the bathroom. This space, where we get ready to start the morning or relax after a day's work, deserves special attention. Here are our 7 tips for eco-friendly bathroom care. (Find out more about our products in our FAQ).

1. Know your environment

Before you start cleaning your bathroom, it's essential to understand your environment. From the hardness of your water to the materials of your bathroom surfaces, this step is necessary to prolong the life of the products present in your intimate space.

2. Avoid chemical household products

In addition to your health, visit chemical products are to be avoided: these products can damage your surfaces and remove protective coatings such as NANO Care present on all our Enclosures and Cabins glass shower units.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of products to avoid:

  • Window cleaners containing ammonia
  • Disinfectants containing benzalkonium chloride
  • Multi-surface cleaners containing triclosan
  • Air fresheners containing formaldehyde
  • Scented cleaners containing phthalates

3. Choose eco-friendly household products

Visit eco-friendly household products have several advantages: they are not only environmentally friendlyThey are also inexpensive and have the same effectiveness as chemical household products, while caring for your bathroom surfaces.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of products to use:

  • White vinegar all-purpose cleaner: White vinegar is an excellent natural multi-surface cleaner. When properly diluted with water, it can be used to clean and disinfect counters, floors, sinks and more.

  • Disinfectants with essential oils: Essential oils such as tea tree, lemon, eucalyptus or lavender have antibacterial and antifungal properties. You can dilute them in water and use them as surface disinfectants EXCEPT on acrylic surfaces.

  • Baking soda degreaser: Baking soda is an excellent natural degreaser. Sprinkle it on greasy surfaces like the stove or sink, and rub with a damp sponge to remove grease residues.

  • Descaling with vinegar and baking soda: mix white vinegar and baking soda to create a powerful stain remover that removes limescale and mineral deposits from sinks, taps and showers.

  • Black soap floor cleaner: Black soap is a natural, all-purpose cleaner that can be used to clean floors, tiles and even wooden surfaces. Dilute with water to create a gentle yet effective cleaner.

  • Baking soda and essential oil air freshener: Mix baking soda with a few drops of essential oil in a small container and place it in the area where you want to get rid of unpleasant odors, such as a closet or dustbin. Do not use essential oils on acrylic surfaces.

4. Maintaining your shower enclosure

The glass in our Enclosures and Cabins shower en closures is all treated with NANO Care, a German-made anti-scale coating applied to the glass to make it water-repellent and streak-resistant. It's therefore preferable to use natural products such as white vinegar diluted 1:10(check the dilution instructions on your bottle of white vinegar, as doses may vary) toremove water and limescale. For maximum longevity, we recommend you squeegee the glass after each use.

For the profiles of your shower enclosure: We recommend that you dry the surfaces after each use and regularly clean joints and areas subject to moisture build-up with an antimicrobial cleaner or a mixture of water and white vinegar.

5. Caring for your bathtub

We recommend that you use a mild, non-abrasive product to clean your bathtub to maintain its smooth, shiny surface. Avoid using aggressive cleaners or essential oils, which could damage the acrylic and detract from the appearance of your bathtub.

To clean an acrylic bathtub, dilute a little mild soap or white vinegar in lukewarm water and rub the entire surface with a soft sponge or microfiber cloth. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove soap residues.

For stubborn stains or areas prone to dirt build-up, sprinkle a little baking soda over the tub surface and rub gently with a damp sponge. This will help remove stains without damaging the acrylic.

6. Maintaining your taps

We recommend that you use mild, non-corrosive products to clean your faucets to avoid damage to the finish. Abrasive or acidic cleaners may dull or damage the faucet surface.

To clean your faucet, use a soft cloth or sponge with a small amount of mild soap. Avoid using scouring sponges or abrasive pads, as they may scratch the surface of the faucet.

After cleaning the faucet, rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue. Then dry the faucet with a soft cloth to avoid water marks and the formation of scale deposits.

For areas prone to limescale build-up, use properly diluted white vinegar. Apply it to the affected area, leave for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.

7. Equip yourself responsibly

Finally, for eco-friendly bathroom maintenance. Choose sustainable, eco-responsible bathroom accessories made from recycled or renewable materials, such as reusable microfibres, natural rubber squeegees, natural sponges, reusable sprays or a brush made from plant fibers.
